Me parece que Chile es el único país de la región que celebra a más no poder su fiesta de independencia nacional. ¡Qué bueno! Echamos la casa por la ventana, los bancos dan crédito en función de las fiestas e, incluso, una ciudad, Coquimbo, amplía los festejos en un día más: cada 20 de septiembre en la Pampilla (en las fotos, los preparativos y el ambiente de alegría que impera allí).
No he visto la misma devoción patriótica de festejos en otros países cercanos. No pasa lo mismo en Argentina para el 25 de mayo. ¿Es comparable un fervor parecido allí? No lo he visto por los medios. La misma pregunta me la formulo respecto de Perú, Colombia, etc.
Celebrar nuestro 18 de esa manera, nos identifica.
Veamos cómo los norteamericanos festejan 4 de julio. Hay programas de música al aire libre, la gente se va de picnic, bailan en los parques. Lo pasan bien. Y qué decir del 14 de julio en Francia. La parada militar en los Campos Elíseos por televisión es lo más interesante y creativo que he visto.
Celebremos cada 18 con ganas y en forma espontánea. Es otra manera se acercarnos a los grandes.

Let’s celebrate our Independence Day
It seems to me that Chile is the only country in this region that widely celebrates its Independence Day. ¡Fine! Even the banks offer loans for the purpose of celebrating. Coquimbo adds another day: 20th September, La Pampilla (the pictures show the preparations there).
I have not seen such patriotic devotion in the other near countries. Is the same in Argentina each 25th May? I have the same question in respect to Peru, Colombia, etc.
Celebrating our 18th in that way is something that identifies us.
Let’s see what Americans do to celebrate the 4th July. There are open air shows, picnics dancing in the parks, etc. They enjoy that. And what about that 14th July in France?. The military parade along Champs Elysee Avenue is a beautiful television show as well.
Let’s celebrate each 18th spontaneously and happily. That is another way to be near of the greats.
